(very difficult solo xylophone part, including use of 4 mallet technique - also very quiet at the end which makes it difficult to record)
|Instrumentation:||Solo Xylophone with Wind Ensemble and Ragtime Band|
|Ensemble Set-up:||Bukvich Symphonic Band Diagram|
Bukvich’s “Xylophone Concerto” is a tribute to Irving Berlin. It was composed for solo xylophone with concert band/wind ensemble and a separate ragtime band. The piece flips back and forth between very contemporary sounds and the sound of ragtime, which Dan associates with the xylophone. It is based on the initial phrase of Berlin’s “ A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody”.
